The CCAM Association warmly welcomes the EC’s Industrial Action Plan for the European Automotive Sector

The European automotive industry is at a pivotal moment, facing rapid technological advancements and fierce global competition. To address these challenges, the European Commission has launched the Industrial Action Plan, building on the Strategic Dialogue initiated by President von der Leyen.

As the CCAM Association, we are particularly excited to see innovation and digitalisation placed at the core of this plan—especially the strong emphasis on autonomous driving! Key highlights include:

• Large-scale cross-border testbeds and European Automated Driving Corridors

• A harmonised regulatory framework to accelerate deployment

• A European Connected & Autonomous Vehicle Alliance

• Support for cybersecurity, AI, and skills development

How the CCAM Partnership will contribute

The CCAM Partnership is committed to supporting the Action Plan by driving research on autonomous mobility through the remaining years of the Horizon Europe programme. Our ongoing projects, such as FAME, SUNRISE, SYNERGIES, AIthena, AI4CCAM, SELFY, CCAM-ERAS, RESKILLING and others, are already laying the foundation for safer, smarter, more inclusive and more connected mobility.

A call for efficient collaboration

The Action Plan proposes the creation of a dedicated Joint Undertaking to bring multiple partnerships together in support of the entire automotive sector. While collaboration is essential, it is crucial to carefully assess whether this instrument is the most effective means to foster innovation and address industry and society needs.

Building the future of autonomous driving

The CCAM Association is eager to continue its active role in shaping a technology roadmap for Autonomous Driving System (ADS) components, covering both software and hardware. This initiative will be key to ensuring Europe remains a global leader in automated mobility.

We look forward to working with industry, policymakers, researchers, EU Member States, and all other stakeholders to turn these plans into reality!
